"I suffered from Vasculitis a few years back and the treatment for that is Steroids and Chemo drugs. I was kept on the Steroids for about three and a half years which led to Vasular Necrosis setting in. My right hip collapsed and my left was "on it's way out". The surgeon (Mr Dunlop) replaced my right hip and wanted to do an experimental operation to save the left. Mr Dunlop went into my back with a syringe taking stem cells, he then mixed them with powdered bone from the bone bank. While this was going on he drilled into my left hip and packed the hole with the mixture. I was only in hospital for 1 week and up on my feet the same day. What the operation has done is to restore the blood flow back into my hip bone, I'll never have to have a redo like the right hip as it will need replacing within the next 10 to 12 years. If I could have had this operation on my right hip then I would have jumped at the chance as I still get pain in that one (you know when it's going to rain)." Carl Millaird, UK
